I decided for August to focus on planning, put my head in my hands for my next move, and to clear my mind.

First, I needed to clear my schedule. There are a few areas where I use my time and focus without planning: children, friends, my community study and the sports club that I support voluntarily. My family and friends are my priorities, and I can still organise my weeks ahead with them easily; they won’t hurt. In my community study, we were two people who edited each session’s transcript. I spent long hours editing. So, I found another editor to support us. That was an excellent start to having a mental space with less duty. Then when I informed my sports club about my decision, they were a little disappointed and yet they could survive without my help for a month.

After letting go of some tasks, what is next for me? I am living it right now. More writing, more mind space and more spare time to rest and meet with new people.

What was behind my decision?

I have been thinking much about focus management rather than time management. We all have 24 hours, 1440 minutes. Our focus is not as limitless as our time. Moreover, we become a prisoner of time when our focus is scattered. I realised that my mind is fully occupied at any bit of the moment and evaluated myself according to my focus with 5 questions:

1. How do I spend my day as an entrepreneur?

On average, a person spends 2.5 hours a day on emails. Is that time really well spent? Is it getting the job done? It depends. According to Forbes, we write an average of 40 emails per day.

I’ve heard from many people who think they are proud to say they do a good job by cleaning their mailbox. Did these emails you cleared get you your desired result, or did you drop another hot potato? I was a person trying to reply to emails instantly. Not anymore. MS Viva is an excellent virtual assistant to organise my mailbox and give applicable personal insights to cover my back. And it’s completely free with Outlook.

And then the internet and social media… How many hours do we spend on social media? According to Statista, as of 2022, the average daily social media usage of internet users worldwide is 147…
